Judges urged to promote tolerance

Published October 20, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Supreme Court judge, Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani on Friday stressed upon judges to promote culture of tolerance and acceptance, particularly in the current socio- political situation.

He was addressing as chief guest at the concluding ceremony of a six-week pre-service training course for newly appointed civil judges and judicial magistrates here at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA).

“No justice system could be effective in providing justice to the people unless the destabilising elements are eliminated from the system,” he said, adding that adherence to principals of equity and indiscrimination would help build up an efficient justice system.

Underlining the importance of independence, Justice Jilani said that judges should not accept pressure of any kind and avoid favouritism on the basis of caste and creed to ensure proper provision of justice.—APP
