MAKKAH, Oct 11: Shawwal moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia and most of the Arab Gulf states on Thursday and Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Friday. However, Oman did not report the sighting and Eid there will be celebrated on Saturday.

The announcement on Thursday by Saudi Arabia’s higher judicial council came as the authorities in four other Gulf Arab states, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, also announced the sighting of the Eid moon.

Religious authorities in Jordan and Lebanon also said that Eid would be celebrated on Friday, while Egypt said it would celebrate the festival on Saturday.—AFP
