ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: Pakistan’s biggest tennis complex, being built at Garden Avenue at a cost of nearly Rs30 million, will be the venue for the upcoming International Futures Satellite Tournament.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Complex, will be ready for use in a couple of weeks from Eid and will be the biggest tennis facility in Pakistan with eight clay courts, including a centre court, a hostel, gym and PTF offices etc.

The PTF President Dilawar Abbas told reporters on Wednesday that the contractors had assured to complete the work in a few weeks. He further said that PTF had arranged another donation of nearly Rs5 million for the project and the revised cost now is nearly Rs30 million.

“We want to hold high profile international tennis at this complex and the beginning will be made with International Futures Satellite to be held after Eid”, he said.

He said the 2007 tennis series between Pakistan and India, initiated last year, would be played next month. It would comprise three-day competitions at Lahore and Islamabad while 2008 rubber will be held in India and may be held in three cities in that country.

“The first-ever Pakistan-India tennis series last year was played in four cities, two in Pakistan and as many in India, but the players found it cumbersome. Hence the decision to restrict it to two cities in one country this year”, Dilawar said. Aisamul Haq has also consented to play in the series against India, he said.—APP
