KOHAT, Oct 11: More than 100 owners of CD shops, who were asked by local Taliban to wind up their business, submitted an undertaking in the city police station on Thursday to voluntarily go for alternative trades.

The local Taliban, involved in blowing up CD shops for the past one year in Kohat, had warned the owners of CD shops to close down what they called their un-Islamic business by October 15. The threat came with a warning that not only would their shops be destroyed but they themselves could be killed if they did not meet the deadline.

The shopkeepers gathered in the city police station on Thursday and submitted an undertaking that they were voluntarily starting alternative businesses. The president of their association, Mr Shaukat, said that two shops had already been closed and the remaining people would start alternative trades in a few days.

The SHO of the city police station appreciated their decision, saying the move would help in restoring law and order in the area. He assured the shopkeepers that they would be provided protection and nobody would be allowed to take law into his hands.
