SUKKUR, Oct: 6: District Coordination Officer Khawaja Shafiq Ahmed has praised the role of government, people and NGOs for giving an effective response to the disaster caused by earthquake in Kashmir which took place two years ago.

The way the political parties, social workers, NGOs and people from all walks of life cooperated and contributed to the relief effort was a symbol of national solidarity and integrity of the country, he said.

He said at a meeting convened on Saturday in connection with observance of National Disaster Awareness Day being celebrated on Oct 8, that the government officials should play a proactive role in dealing with national disasters.

He asked the participants to prepare a comprehensive plan of action which could be implemented during any emergency like earthquake, cyclones, floods and heavy rains or man made disasters like fire, subversive activities, damage to national infrastructure and accidents of railways, airplanes or ships etc.—APP
