QUETTA, Oct 6: Gen Pervez Musharraf got all the 33 votes cast in the Balochistan assembly on Saturday.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, who was the presiding officer, announced the unofficial results.

Provincial Election Commissioner Suno Khan and assembly’s secretary Mohammad

Khan Mengal acted as polling officers.

Out of 38 legislators, five did not vote. All the votes polled were declared valid.

Twenty-four MPAs of the PML, four of the Jamhoori Watan Party, including Nawab Akbar Bugti’s nephew Haji Jumma Khan Bugti, three of the Balochistan National Party(A) and two of the Muttahida Majlis Amal (Agha Faisal Daud and Amna Khanum) voted for Gen Musharraf.

Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar and PPP legislators Nawab Aslam Raisani and Shafiq Ahmed abstained.

Ruling PML lawmaker Mir Bakhtiar Khan Domki, grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti, did not turn up, while Mir Balach Khan Marri is out of country.

Pakistan People’s Party candidate Makhdoom Amin Fahim and lawyers’ candidate Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed did not receive any vote.

When the counting of votes started after 3pm, Advocate Baz Mohammad Kakar, the polling agent for Justice (retd) Wajihuddin, objected and said that the vote count was a violation of Supreme Court’s order which had said that the election result should not be announced till October 17.

He said he had not signed the result sheet and the violation of the SC order would be taken to the court.

The presiding officer said that the polling was held in a transparent, fair and peaceful manner.

Tight security was witnessed in and around the assembly building and all roads leading to the place were sealed by hundreds of police and Balochistan Constabulary personnel.
