Man shoots brother over vani row

MIANWALI, Oct 5: A man shot dead his elder brother after he backtracked from his promise to give his daughter in vani in Rame-Khelanwala village, 25km from here.

Ali Khan and Sikandar Khan developed a dispute over their parents’ land a few years ago and fired at each other. Their elder brother, Faizullah Khan, tried to stop them, but he was killed by Ali Khan’s bullet.

Musakhel police registered a case against Ali Khan on the complaint of his younger brother, Sikandar Khan.

After sometime, Khans’ relatives and local elders reconciled them after Ali Khan allegedly agreed to marry his minor daughter to Sikandar’s son under the vani custom.

A few months ago, Sikandar told Ali that he wanted his son to tie the knot, but Ali kept on delaying the marriage and finally refused to honour his word. This angered Sikandar and he shot Ali on Thursday evening.
