GUJRANWALA, Oct 2: A bank branch in Rail Bazaar and passengers of a Gujrat-bound coaster were looted in two major strikes here on Tuesday.

Five outlaws stormed into the United Bank’ branch in Bank Square at 10:10am. They took cashier, the manager and other staff on gunpoint and confined them in a room. They fled after collecting Rs1.5 million in cash and thrashing a guard, Iqbal, for resisting.

They also abandoned their cellular phone and motorcycle in the Bank Square.

In the second incident, four robbers boarded a Gujrat-bound coaster from the General Bus Stand. They took the driver at gunpoint soon after the vehicle left the city precincts and forced him to divert to a link road. Later, they snatched cash, jewellery and cell phones from passengers and fled.

The police have started investigation.
