Jockey Aamir’s ban lifted

Published September 23, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 22: In a dramatic development, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have lifted the ban on jockey Aamir Parvaiz, who was warned off for good on March 4 last for pulling Pakistan Derby favourite Toru Khan on whom there was a massive betting plunge.

The action against the jockey was taken on the report of the LRC stipendiary steward who testified that at no stage Aamir let the colt run on merit. He moved Toru Khan only when he had ensured that now he is unable to beat the front-runner Gold Krik.

In a notification, the LRC said “stewards allowed to ride jockey Aamir Parvaiz in races henceforth and allowed to enter the premises of the Lahore race club”.

The notification did not specify the reason for lifting the ban on the jockey, accused of pulling a favourite horse in the country’s highest classic race.—AG
