GUJRANWALA, Sept 21: Enrolment of girl students in state-run colleges in the district is almost double than that of boys and the pendulum is likely to swing more in the years to come.

According to a survey conducted by Dawn, at least 18 government-run colleges are running in the district and 11 of them are meant for girls.

The figure of boy students’ enrolment in these colleges is 10,994 while the tally of girl students is 20,544, which is almost twofold.

The two major educational institutions are the Government College for Boys and the Government College for Women in Satellite Town, Gujranwala, where the numbers of boy students are 6,147 and girls students 9,263, respectively.

MOBILE TEAMS: The seven mobile teams constituted by the district administration on Friday imposed a fine on 15 butchers for overcharging.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ather Hussain Sial warned that butchers and shopkeepers involved in overcharging would not be tolerated.

It is learnt that one each mobile team has been constituted for four towns and three tehsils of the district.

Meanwhile, the district administration claimed to have arrested 47 shopkeepers and fined them Rs85,000 collectively for overcharging.
