ISLAMABAD, Sept 21: Ruling Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Friday the opposition had set new examples of double standards in politics after ignoring all democratic norms and traditions.

Talking to APP, the PML chief said only two weeks ago the opposition was lauding the Supreme Court verdicts and declaring that the judiciary was fully independent.

“Now the opposition is criticising the judiciary and trying to pressurise the apex court for a decision that suits their personal political interests,” he said.

Chaudhry Shujaat urged the opposition to show respect for democratic culture and to avoid issuing irresponsible statements for petty political benefits.

The PML president appealed to the legal community not to become a tool in the hands of politicians who only want to score political points.

He said the masses should try to help maintain the status achieved by the judiciary and to reject the elements doing politics without any issue-oriented agenda.—APP
