LAHORE, Sept 9: Bay filly Noor, who finished fourth in the War Heroes Cup last week, landed the September Cup ran over 1,000 metres in a stunning performance during the 2nd Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman, Noor beat Lovely Gate by over three lengths. Harry Can Run and Chill completed the frame. In all, 12 ran for the event after the last-minute withdrawal of Princess Of Gujrat and Royal Luck from the race.

Last Sunday, Noor had put up a dismal show, finishing fourth way behind Kiss Of Luck, Royal Fish and Zanjeer. But Noor sped like a limousine to win the feature event while leading all the way.

Two three-year-old colts, Baker View and Desert Prince, put up fine performances winning their respective events. Baker View beat Richy Dancer to claim the supporting and fifth event while Desert Prince stormed home in the fourth race ahead of the field. He beat gelding Trump Coup by about four lengths. Shah Pari and Dazzy Against All completed the frame. The race was contested by a large number of 15 runners after the withdrawal of Mannan Prince at the last moment.

The second race was a close affair with long shot Love Minister edging out Black King by a short head in a photo-finish verdict. Favourite Shah Pari finished third, a length behind.

Jockey Shahid Rehman stole the limelight, riding home two winners. He piloted Baker View in the fifth race and then followed it with a fluent win on Noor in the sixth race.

Three firm favourites won in a card of seven races gone through on Sunday.

Midway through the proceedings, the race-goers held fateha for the soul of the veteran trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar (68), who died early on Sunday morning and was buried in the afternoon. They also observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the departed soul.
