MURREE, Sept 9: Two persons were killed and six others injured when an under-construction building in the cantonment area collapsed on Sunday, officials and hospital staff said.

All the victims were labourers, who were busy removing the wooden planks that supported a recently laid floor of the building located adjacent to the office of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Murree.

One of the deceased was identified as Adnan, a resident of Okara, while the name of the other labourer could not be ascertained. Some of the injured were taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Murree.

Unconfirmed reports said some labourers were still trapped under the rubble, which was being cleared by using heavy machinery.

After the incident, army personnel cordoned off the area and did not allow journalists and local people to come near the site.
