FAISALABAD, Sept 6: Three Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers and scores of workers besieged Gulberg Police Station on Thursday after police arrested a local party leader.

Police sources said that PML-N City President Khawaja Muhammad Islam had been arrested on the direction of higher authorities “to stop him from creating problems on Nawaz Sharif’s return”.

Provoked by police action, Member of the National Assembly Raja Nadir Pervaiz, Members of the Punjab Assembly Rana Sanaullah and Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed and scores of workers reached Gulberg Police Station and blocked the main Narwala Road.

They raised slogans against the government and demanded Islam’s immediate

release.

They said the Gulberg station house officer called Islam, arrested him and shifted him to an undisclosed location.

Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully after talks with an official.
