ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and the University of Faisalabad (TUF) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for academic cooperation and mutual benefit.

The MoU was signed by Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, president, International Islamic University, Islamabad and Prof Dr Abdul Majeed, pro-rector, the University of Faisalabad here on Thursday.

The MoU shall pave the way for cooperation in the fields of engineering and technology, health sciences, Shariah, law, management sciences, and social sciences for achieving higher standards of academic excellence.

According to an official announcement, the MoU says both universities will identify areas and subjects for academic programmes and joint research work and involve their staff in these projects.

The MoU further adds that the IIUI will nominate its experts in law, Shariah, electronic engineering and technology, computers, Tafseer/Hadith, social sciences, languages and literature and other disciplines on the academic syndicate of TUF.

The IIUI shall also provide its skills and expertise in various academic disciplines and assist TUF in designing schemes of studies, courses and curricula.

The IIUI will also offer its academic facilities to students sponsored by TUF in its regular degree programmes. Both universities will organize seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences on each other’s campuses.

The MoU shall provide internationally accepted standards and norms of skills and expertise to the TUF from the academic, training and research pool of IIUI.

Mr Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja, director academics and registrar of IIUI, Dr Muhammad Tahir Mansoori, dean, faculty of Shariah and law of IIUI and Dr Zahoor Ahmad Azhar, dean of TUF were also present at the signing ceremony of the MoU.

Meanwhile, a renowned Turkish academician, Dr Abdul Hamit Birisik, has joined the department of Hadith at IIUI under the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC’s) foreign professors’ programme. He will supervise PhD studies.

HEC has so far arranged 10 foreign professors for the university.
