MIRAMSHAH, Sept 3: Clashes between local Taliban militants and security forces on Monday left a woman dead, while another woman and her three children were injured when a mortar shell hit their house in Qutubkhel village of North Waziristan agency, sources said.

The first clash took place after militants fired rockets on the Sarbandi checkpoint, about two kilometres from Miramshah bazaar, drawing retaliatory fire from security forces.

During the exchange of fire, a mortar shell hit the house in Qutubkhel village.

In another incident, militants attacked three checkpoints on Sunday night with rockets and missiles, injuring one soldier.

The militants also fired rockets and missiles on Qamar, Thal and Miramshah checkpoints, drawing heavy retaliatory fire from security forces.
