KARACHI, Sept 2: Pakistan People’s Party Central Information Secretary Sherry Rehman condemning the collapse of the Northern Bypass Bridge that killed six citizens and injured several others has called for immediate disbursement of compensation amount to the heirs of the victims.

“The death of innocent citizens is very unfortunate,” said Sherry Rehman in a statement issued from London where she is present to attend the central executive committee’s meeting of her party.

Ms Rehman said, “The bridge worth Rs3 billion was inaugurated with much fanfare early last month. The fact that it did not even sustain for three weeks says much about the quality of development work being carried out by the city government.”

Probe demanded

The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) criticising the government for the low quality work that led to the collapse of the bridge has demanded a probe into the incident by a high-level independent body and stern action against those found responsible, said a statement issued here on Sunday.
