LAHORE, Aug 31: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has directed food officials to clampdown vendors selling substandard and adulterated food items during the holy month of Ramazan.

While presiding over a meeting to review Ramazan arrangements at Jinnah Hall here on Friday, the nazim directed the food squad of the city district government to keep a check on the quality of vegetable ghee used to fry ‘samosas’ and ‘pakoras’ largely used for Iftar during the fasting month and take a stern action against the vendors using substandard ghee or other foodstuff.

The nazim was informed that complaint registers were being placed in 200 major restaurants in the provincial metropolis and food inspectors would check these registers once a week and take necessary action to address public grievances.

Mian Amer directed town municipal officers to persuade wholesalers and manufacturers to set up their stalls in Ramazan Bazaars so that masses could get essential commodities at cheap prices. The market committees should also persuade growers to sell fruits and vegetables in Sunday and Ramazan Bazaars.

He also formed a committee consisting of revenue, livestock, labour, agriculture, market committee and town municipal administration officials to ensure abundant supply of essential commodities to such bazaars.
