MULTAN, Aug 27: A passer-by was killed and two guards of a security company were injured when robbers tried to loot Rs4.8 million cash being unloaded from a bank van near Hussain Agahi Chowk here on Monday.

The police said the van of a private security company was carrying cash to the Muslim Commercial Bank’s Andhi Khoi Branch in Lohari Gate police precincts when four unidentified robbers intercepted it.

As the robbers tried to take away the cash, the security guards who were carrying moneybags to the bank after parking the vehicle nearby put up resistance. The panicked robbers opened fire on them. Some bullets hit a passer-by, Sajjad Hussain, 30, along with two security guards, Ghazanfar and Abdul Ghaffar.

As a result, Sajjad died on the spot. The injured guards were taken to Nishtar Hospital where they were said to be stable. The robbers, however, fled with Rs4.8 million.
