LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 26: Jamaat-i-Islami provincial general-secretary Shabbir Ahmad Khan said on Sunday that the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) had been formed to end military’ influence in politics and send the army back to barracks.

Speaking at a gathering of JI workers in Serai Gambila, some 22 kilometres from here, Mr Khan alleged that the government was using the armed forces against its own people to appease the United States.

He termed President Musharraf’s tenure unconstitutional and said government’s policies would destabilise the country.

Provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat Khan, JI district Amir Prof Sher Ghulam were present on the occasion.

He said the APDM’s public meeting in Peshawar on Sept 6 would pave the way for holding transparent and free elections in the country.

The integrity of the nation was at stake and the country was passing through a critical juncture due to wrong policies of Gen Pervez Musharraf, he added.
