SWABI: Petty dispute leaves 2 dead

Published August 19, 2007

SWABI, Aug 18: Two men were killed following a ‘gunbattle’ between two families here on Saturday. In Beka, a village situated 16kms from here, two families opened fire on each other after quarrelling over a petty dispute.

It was learnt that a few years ago Ibrar Ahmad’s sister married Sabir Hassan of the same village, but relations between them deteriorated to the extent that the woman went back to her father’s house. Some elders of the area tried to resolve the dispute but in vain because the man and the woman in question assumed rigid stands. The woman refused to go back to her husband’s home, while Sabir’s family wanted her back because they felt it was a matter of honour.

Things turned so serious on Saturday that the two families clashed with firearms. In the subsequent battle, Ibrar’s brother, Khalil Ahmad, and Sabir’s father, Sikandar Khan, were slain.

Two separate FIRs have been lodged in the case.
