Review of LPG policy demanded

MULTAN, Aug 12: The LPG Distributors Association Pakistan has demanded formation of a committee at national level to review the decision of linking of price with the international market.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, association chairman Muhammad Irfan Khokhar said the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to link the LPG price with the world market was badly affecting the industry.

He said after the introduction of the policy, two marketing companies out of 60 had become bankrupt and wound up their business while 19 companies closed their sale operation, causing a great deal of inconvenience to consumers.

He said there were about 7,000 distributors and more than 0.275 million sale points in the country one year ago but the marketing companies reduced the profit as a result 1,000 distributors finished the business which caused closure of more than 5,000 sale points.

Mr Khokhar said the government should arrange fixing of margin between distributors and sale point holders according to international rules.
