Residents suffer from power cuts

RAWALPINDI, Aug 12: Despite government’s claims of keeping power cuts to bare minimum, the residents of Adiala Road continue to suffer from frequent breakdowns of more than an hour’s duration.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has promised to resolve the power breakdown issue, but he failed to live up to it, Riffat Abid, a resident of National Housing Scheme, Adiala Road, said.

Perturbed by the power cuts, Ms Abid said she was unable to carry out her household chores due to frequent electricity cuts throughout the day. “It becomes totally unbearable especially when power is suspended from 1am to 2am. We have to stay awake as it is impossible to sleep in the hot weather,” she said.

Raheela Hamid, a resident of Rah-i-Sukoon, was equally annoyed with the frequent power suspension in the area. She said provision of basic amenities was the prime responsibility of the government, but unfortunately they were being ignored. The authorities concerned should see to it that power supply should not be interrupted during the summers, she added.

The residents have appealed to the authorities concerned to take stock of the situation and resolve their problem on urgent basis.
