SAHIWAL, Aug 1: People have protested against Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) for carrying out unscheduled loadshedding in several localities and DHQ hospital where two patients died from heat on Tuesday night.
The company is reportedly suspending power supply for three to four times in different durations without any shutdown schedule, causing a great deal of inconvenience to citizens.
No response is received from the helplines-118, 4463772 and 9200334 (grid). If someone succeeds in contacting the company’s Sahiwal circle, the officials tell him that they have received guidelines for load management from Islamabad, Faisalabad or Jaranwala. The DHQ Hospital is also witnessing power suspension while its generator is out of order for the past six months. The district government had promised provision of a generator to the hospital which had not been fulfilled. Wazeeran and Muhammad Akram died from heat at the hospital on Tuesday night.
Baba Ali, a resident of Scheme No.2, told this correspondent that his locality was hit by worst-ever outages. People have demanded the authorities concerned to announce power suspension schedule.
CASE FILED: Police on Wednesday registered a theft case against a recovery officer of MCB Bank, Jinnah Street, and his four accomplices.
Reports said Arshad had got a car (LZY-3186) from the bank on lease and paid the entire amount. On Wednesday, he came to the bank to get his vehicle cleared when bank official Muhammad Umair along with his four accomplices snatched the car and cash worth Rs530,000.
