HYDERABAD, Aug 1: Director General, Agriculture Engineering, Agha Zafarullah Durrani has said there are 45,000 watercourses in the province while only 7,600 have been lined under the President programme of lining of watercourses.

According to research reports of Wapda and other institutions about 30 to 40 per cent of water was being wasted due to non-lining of watercourses, he said on Wednesday in a statement.

About 200 offices of water management were working with the formation of water user associations, he said and added: “An association is registered in the district on receipt of an application from the grower and the cost estimated by an agricultural engineering team with the release of funds in three instalments.

The lining has helped in saving about 30 to 40 per cent water with growers harvesting more yields,” he said.
