ISLAMABAD, July 30: Scores of well-equipped personnel of law- enforcement agencies were deployed on the Constitution Avenue to avoid any untoward incident during the proceeding of the National Assembly on Monday.

The security measures were taken in the aftermath of two suicide bomb attacks in the capital within a short period of 10 days which claimed 34 lives and wounded over 100 persons, mostly personnel of law-enforcement agencies.

Sources said the precautionary steps were taken in the light of threats that suicide bombers might target sensitive buildings located on the Constitution Avenue.

Intelligence reports have expressed the fear that suicide bombers might attack sensitive buildings and personnel of intelligence, arm forces and other law-enforcement agencies.

Scores of security personnel in uniforms and plainclothes deployed in and around the avenue started combing the area late on Sunday night.

Large cement blocks were laid down on the road in a particular pattern to force the drivers to reduce their speed.

The security personnel scanned vehicles including those with green number plates with metal detectors.

The law-enforcers also carried out physical search of vehicles on the avenue stretched between the Foreign Office and the Parliament House. Besides, walk-through gates were also erected at the two points.
