ATTOCK, July 28: The interior ministry has sought seven days from the Supreme Court to hand over the body of a seminary student hailing from Shakardra village of Attock, who was killed in the Lal Masjid operation, to his parents.

According to Hafiz Syed Sanaullah Shah, the uncle of Shahid Usman; the interior ministry spokesman informed the two-member bench comprising Justice Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Abdul Hameed Doggar on Thursday that DNA test of Shahid Usman’s parents was in progress which would take about one week.

Only after receiving the DNA test report and completion of other verifications, the authority would be in a position to hand over the body to the parents, he argued.

The bench granted seven days’ time to the ministry and directed them to expedite the process. The hearing was adjourned till Thursday.

Meanwhile, Safiullah, the 18-year-old injured brother of Shahid Usman, was shifted to Adiala Jail by the Islamabad police on Saturday after completion of his physical remand, Mr Shah added.

It may be noted that the body of another Lal Masjid student, Mohammad Aksar from

the Shakardra village, has also not been handed over to his family.

The parents of Shahid Usman and Mohammad Ashraf had identified their sons after their photographs were published in national dailies as foreign militants.
