LAHORE, July 28: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal deputy secretary-general Liaquat Baloch has said the meeting between Gen Pervez Musharraf and People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto is a meeting of two “self-seeking and unprincipled individuals in pursuit of personal ends”.

Talking to reporters by telephone on Saturday, Mr Baloch said the general’s fresh move should be a point of concern for the ruling PML, particularly the Chaudhrys from Gujrat, who seemed to have been sidelined in ‘this game of power politics’ by their hitherto benefactor.

The MMA leader said the meeting at Abu Dhabi showed that for both Ms Bhutto and Gen Musharraf, personal interests were supreme. “This also proves that the PPP chairperson is keen to return to power at all costs and is even ready to faithfully serve the military and the country’s establishment as their political subsidiary.”

According to him, dedicated PPP workers who had been raising their voice against military dictatorship had been left perplexed on the latest development.

Condemning the Friday killings in Islamabad, Mr Baloch said Gen Musharraf had lost control over the country’s affairs and the government writ was practically non-existent. “Foreign hand is targeting innocent citizens in subversive activities while the government is using the armed forces to shed the blood of its countrymen.”

He said the American agenda was clear now as it wanted to create a chaos and unrest in the country only to achieve its ends.

He declared that the APDM would continue its struggle for an end to the military dictatorship, the revival of the 1973 Constitution and fair and impartial elections.
