GUJRANWALA, July 28: The anti-terrorism court-2 on Saturday accepted an interim bail plea of a police inspector, one of the main characters in the Sialkot jail case, till Aug 4.
The court ordered Zulfikar Ali Virk to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
Virk was among those police officers who conducted the operation when some prisoners had held hostage a number of civil judges who had visited the jail for a routine inspection.
The operation had left nine people, including four judges, dead. The SHO was arrested by police along with other officers when a case was registered against them on the recommendation of an inquiry team. Virk, however, escaped from police custody after offering drugged milk to his escorts two years ago.
Subsequently, the court declared him fugitive. He appeared before the court and admitted that he fled due to fear of his killing in an encounter by police.
ARREST WARRANTS: A labour court on Saturday issued arrest warrants of Punjab local government secretary after he failed to appear before the court.
Hearing the appeal of a retired TMA official, the court has summoned the secretary on a number of occasions but he never turned up.
According to petitioner Rana Qasim, before abolishing the Gujranwala tehsil municipal administration, the authorities did not decide the mother town which would clear his dues.
Issuing the warrants, the court adjourned the hearing till September.
heavy transformers: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) will install heavy electric transformers at four grid stations in a few days brining the total capacity of the system to 132 megawatt. This was stated by Gepco chief executive Rana Muhammad Ashraf Zahid while talking to Dawn.
He said the transformers would help provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers. He said 20/26MV power transformers would replace 10/13MV transformers at 132KV Wazirabad and Narowal grid stations while 132KV Pasrur Road and Sialkot grid stations would get 20/26MVA power transformers.
He said 20/26MV power transformers would replace 10/13MV transformer at 132KV Shakargarh and Lala Musa grid stations while 132KV Pasrur Road and College Road grid stations’ power transformers having 20/26MV would be replaced with 40MV transformers. He said the company had allocated Rs300 million to improve the distribution system.
