SIALKOT, July 26: Police raided an outhouse of Member of the National Assembly Dr Fardous Ashiq Awan in Koobey Chak late on Wednesday. The police action is believed to be linked with Ms Awan’s ditching the Pakistan Muslim League and joining the Pakistan People’s Party.

Police arrested five people for resorting to aerial firing to celebrate Ms Awan’s political move.

She called police action “aftershocks” of her joining the PPP. She alleged the police raided her places to please her political rivals. She urged the chief justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take serious note of the situation.

Dr Awan said she would contest the election against National Assembly speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain and would give him tough time. Political observers called it a big political set back for the ruling PML in Sialkot. — Correspondent
