PESHAWAR, March 9: A United Nations’ employee was manhandled by two policemen near Sunday Bazaar in the posh locality of Hayatabad.

Talking to Dawn Syed Hasim Alvi, the UN worker in Peshawar, said on Thursday that he was on his way home by a taxi when he was stopped by two policemen in front of the Sunday Bazaar in Hayatabad on Tuesday night. Both policemen, after a thorough search, took out $300 from his wallet and insisted to go along with them to Hayatabad police station, he claimed. He further said that despite showing all legal documents and UN employee card, they denied to return the money.

He said he agreed with both policemen to go to Hayatabad police station, but when they reached there the policemen  ordered the cab driver to go ahead.  “About 100 meters from the Hayatabad police station I was asked to go home, but I went directly to police station and informed Mohrar Mir Hussain about the incident. He immediately called both the policemen on wireless and got the money returned to me,” Mr Hasim said.

“But both the policemen demanded local currency for returning $300,” he said.
