KARACHI, July 25: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for close coordination among civil defence, fire fighting, Red Crescent Society, health, local government and other relevant departments at all levels for better disaster management.

Chairing a meeting at the Governor’s House to review the performance of Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s Sindh branch on Wednesday, he said the PRCS had always remained active throughout the province during emergency situations.

He said the services of trained volunteers and resources should be fully utilised and Red Crescent should give necessary training to the staff of other relevant departments.

Briefing the meeting about the ongoing projects and future plans, Sindh PRCS Chairman Sohail Wajahat said the extension work of Emergency Response System would be completed by September in Karachi and by the end of this year in other districts.

The meeting was told that 150 trained volunteers were available with the Red Crescent Society to deal with any disaster.

The governor directed all District Coordination Officers to coordinate with the PRCS and expressed hope that an efficient network of disaster management system, with the completion of ongoing and future projects, would be established at district level in the province.
