Punjab University in semis

LAHORE, March 8: Punjab University, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Peshawar University and Islamic University, Islamabad have entered the semi-final of the Inter-varsity Zone ‘A’cricket championship here Friday.

The pre-finals will be played on Saturday and the winners will qualify for the final round of the championship commencing here from March 12. In the final round Zone ‘B’ teams will also compete.

However, to determine the first and second position of Zone “A” a match will be played on Sunday at the Punjab University Old Campus ground.

Two matches were decided on Friday.

The defending champions Punjab University defeated Peshawar University by 13 runs at the Old Campus ground.

PUNJAB UNIVERSITY: 200 for four in 40 overs (Muhammad Ayub Dogar 66, Haroon Rahim 45 not out, Muhammad Rizwan 37; Mohammad Tahir 2/29).

Peshawar University: 187 all out in 39.5 overs (Fardaus Khan 65, Ehteshamuddin 22, Masleahuddin 30; Sajid Aziz 4/28, Mamoon Khan 3/22, Farhan Khan 2/34).

Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad (QUI) outplayed International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) by 22 runs.

SUMMARISED SCORES:

QUI: 212 for eight in 40 overs (Zahid Durrani 91, Waheed Mumtz 29, Muddasar Raza 23; Kashif Salim 2/46, Raja Shahid 2/43).

IIUI: 190 all out in 36 overs (Jehanzeb 41, Hamid Nawaz 33, Kashif Salim 23; Muhammad Ayub 4/50).

Thursday’s matches results:

Punjab University (PU) defeated Agriculture University, Faisalabad (AUF) by 32 runs.

SUMMARISED SCORES:

PU: 238 for 8 in 40 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 55, Haroon Rahim 54, Kashif Khalil Bhatti 31, Arsalan Mir 47, Salman Rahat 20; Adnan 3/41, Hamid Bashir 3/47).

AUF: 206 all out in 35.3 overs (Tariq Javed 25, Shoaib Cheema 87, Aleem Mughal 43, Ali Daud 22; Haroon Rahim 2/14, Sajid Aziz 2/31).

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) beat Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan (GUDIK) by three wickets.

SUMMARISED SCORES:

GUDIK: 199 for five in 40 overs (Ameer Moawia 48, Salim 38, Asif Mahmood 42, Ejaz Ahmad 28; Hamid Minhas 4/21).

IIUI: 200 for seven in 29.3 overs (Raja Shahid 57, Kashif Salim 49, Afif Ahmad 22, Jehanzeb 20).

Peshawar University (PU) defeated University of Engineering and Technology (UET) by 72 runs.

SUMMARISED SCORES:

PU: 201 for six in 40 overs (Salim 44, Muslehuddin 31 not out, Kifait 32, Zaman Said 25, Azhar Usman 22; Anees 4/16).
