RAWALPINDI, July 18: Special judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 here on Wednesday remanded three women family members of Maulana Abdul Aziz in police custody for further three days in a murder case.

The judge also remanded Mohammad Afzal, a teacher of Jamia Fareedia, in police custody for five days in the murder case of a Rangers personnel on July 3.

Majida Aziz alias Umme Hassan, the wife of Maulana Aziz, and his daughters Asma and Tayyaba Dua were produced before the court in tight security by the Islamabad police. Their counsel, Hashmat Habib Advocate opposed the remand and completed arguments on the bail application of Ms Tayyaba.

The judge remanded Umme Hassan and Mohammad Afzal in judicial custody for 14 days in two other cases registered in April and May with the Aabpara police.

Mr Habib contented that Afzal had surrendered to security agencies on July 4 and was later implicated in the murder case. The hearing was put off till July 21.

Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, the defence counsel alleged that he was being harassed by security agencies for pursuing the cases of those related to Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa. He said his land in Bhara Kahu had been blocked with barbed wires and electricity supply was cut off. He said when he lodged a complaint with the authorities concerned in Islamabad, they said he was being punished for following the cases.

Mr Habib said being a member of Amnesty International he was duty-bound to pursue cases of human rights violations.

He said the bail application of Ms Tayyaba was moved on the directives of the Supreme Court and he would inform the apex court about the outcome of the bail plea on Thursday.
