KARACHI, March 8: Sindh ombudsman Justice (rtd) Haziqul Khairi has directed the DIG Sindh traffic police & highways to work out a plan to replace silencers of rickshaws in Karachi.

He was chairing a meeting in Karachi on Friday to review the steps taken to check the violation of environmental laws, especially by rickshaws in Karachi, causing noise and smoke pollution.

The ombudsman expressed concern over the delay in the operation of the Environmental Protection Tribunals. It was resolved to take necessary steps to make functional these Tribunals that were established in 1999 but still remain inoperative despite the appointment of magistrates.—PPI/APP
