ISLAMABAD, July 17: The government believes that the recent spate of suicide attacks is a reaction to the Lal Masjid operation that claimed over 120 lives.

“We have no solid evidence, but we believe that these incidents in various parts of the country, including the federal capital, are a reaction to the operation against Lal Masjid,” interior ministry spokesman Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema said.

The interior minister told Dawn that the recent suicide bombings could be linked to the Lal Masjid operation. “We believe that suicide bombing in D.I. Khan, Swat and Islamabad have direct or indirect links with Lal Masjid,” he said.
