PHF officials miss Niaz funeral

Published October 21, 2001

LAHORE, Oct 20: How much respect the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) gives to national heroes could be well judged by the fact that not a single official attended the funeral and Qul of former Pakistan captain Niaz Khan.

Former cricket captain and chief executive of the PCB, Majid Khan, former BCCP president K. M. Azhar, former hockey player, Khawaja Mohammad Aslam, Punjab Hockey Association secretary, Inam Rabbani Rana and other sports personalities attended the Qul.

The PHF, meanwhile, chose just to issue a condolence message but none of its officials attended the ceremony.

Niaz, who led the Pakistan team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, died here in the wee hours of Friday.
