ISLAMABAD, March 7: Pakistan and Nepal have agreed in principle to enhance their bilateral cooperation in the field of print and broadcast media to their mutual advantage, an official announcement said.

Nepalese Minister for Information and Communications, Mr Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta and Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar A. Memon at a meeting on Thursday agreed to encourage exchange of media delegations and to enhance technical cooperation among the media organizations of their respective countries.

The Nepalese information minister arrived here on a three-day official visit in connection with the second meeting of Saarc information ministers.

Welcoming his counterpart, Nisar A. Memon resolved to work together and evolve a close relationship in media and information matters.

He said the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and Radio Nepal could explore areas of common interest and develop a programme to interact and exchange useful material and information.

In addition, the PTV and NTV should explore the possibility of co-production of TV serials, long plays and documentaries. Similarly the APP and the Nepalese National News Agency, Rashtria Samachar Samit (RSS), could coordinate and exchange important current issues and news, he added.

During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed various aspects of the existing cooperation in the field of broadcast and print media and expressed satisfaction over the ongoing exchanges among the relevant agencies of the two countries. Ways and means were also explored to further enhance and develop the existing cooperation. For this purpose they felt it appropriate to proceed the matter through the proper diplomatic channels.
