HYDERABAD, July 14: Experts believe that although the government spends more on the education of a single student than a private school there is no comparison between quality of education imparted by government schools and private schools, says DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri.

Mr Khatri said while presiding over a meeting of education officers and members of District Education Monitoring Committee at Shahbaz Hall late on Friday that the district government had formulated a multidimensional District Educational Plan to ensure quality education with punctuality and capacity-building of teaching community.

The main components of the plan comprised fixation of targets, posting plan and adoption of effective monitoring system, he said and added that the purpose of this plan was to bring the government schools at par with modern private schools so that poor students could get quality education at nominal fees nearest their homes.

About the modalities of the plan, the DCO directed the officers to prepare a plan of their targets for each school up to union council level by July 20 and prepare a posting plan by July 30, which would be put into practice from Aug 16 to avoid unbalanced posting of teachers at the schools.

He asked the officers to ensure that each school had the strength of teaching staff at the ratio of one teacher for 30 students and the women teachers were accommodated at the schools nearest their homes.

He urged them not to surrender to any political pressure for transfer or posting of any teacher at the school of his or her choice. In order to keep vigilance and ensure check and balance, the DCO directed all the ADOs, Dos and the EDO of education to prepare their inspection schedule to ensure that teachers or students were attending schools regularly.

He said that the District Education Monitoring Committee had already been formed and authorised to maintain vigilance on the performance of officers and teaching community and report negligence if any to the district council and district nazim with recommendations.

He said that he himself would coordinate with all the stakeholders and pay surprise visits to the schools to ensure discipline and urged the schools to revive morning prayers and assembly of students.

The EDO of education, Anwar Ahmed, told the meeting that more than 9,000 teachers of the district had trained under different programmes by the district government for their capacity building to ensure quality education. He counted political interference in the schools management and extra duties assigned to teachers other than their own as the main obstacles to quality education.

He assured that the teaching community had not only accepted the professional challenges but they were also committed to make Hyderabad a model district in education.
