HYDERABAD, July 12: District council convener, Zafar Ali Rajput, on Thursday asked the council’s justice committee to call the SHO of Husri police station and grill him about complaints of a union council nazim of Awam Dost Panel that the SHO was harassing him and his councillors.

The nazim of union council Husri, Abdullah Shoro, rose on a point of order at the fag end of the session and said that “the SHO is issuing threats to us and pressurising me and councillors.”

ADP's Yamin Soomro supported Mr Shoro and said that all the members were elected people and they should not be insulted in this manner. Earlier Shafqat Shoro was sent to prison under a false case only because he belonged to ADP, he said.

Surprisingly, neither Abdullah Shoro nor Yamin Soomro mentioned District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil whom they along with taluka nazim of Hyderabad (rural), Khawind Bux Jahejo, had accused of forcing them to change loyalty and join MQM at a press conference on Wednesday.

When journalists asked them about at the end of the session they laughed away their queries.

Convenor Zafar Ali Rajput referred Mr Shoro’s matter to the council’s justice committee, asking it to call the SHO and submit a report before the next session.

The session was adjourned sine die after the regular agenda was disposed of in which two reports about citizen community boards were adopted by the council.

The session began with an out of turn resolution jointly tabled by Dr Arif Razmi and Ghulam Rasool Samoon, supported by Rashid Khan, condemning remarks passed against MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain by NWFP Assembly and the multi party conference in London.

The council adopted the resolution and interestingly the MMA-backed Hussain Bux Hussaini did not oppose it.

Mr Hussaini raised the issue of supply of polluted water to his area. He appreciated the construction of a filter plant in his area but said that till it was completed alternate arrangement should be made to supply clean drinking water to people.

The council passed a resolution put forward by Farzana Ansari about organising Sunday bazaars in the city. Her resolution was backed by Mr Hussaini.

The convener referred the resolution presented by Rozina Fasahat about posting of teachers in Tandojam Girls’ High School to the education committee.

The chairperson of the council’s education committee, Yusuf Mukhtar, said that the matte had been reported to Sindh chief minister after some teaches were posted there against their will.
