HYDERABAD, July 12: A spokesman for the district government has dismissed the allegations levelled by Awam Dost Panel nazims and councillors of Hyderabad rural taluka as ‘totally baseless’ and aimed at gaining cheap popularity.

In a statement faxed to Dawn late on Wednesday night, the spokesman said that no other council member had any complaints about alleged discrimination.

He said that the district government had undertaken billions of rupees development works throughout the district without any discrimination between the rural and urban areas including Husri.

He said that rising above political affiliations, the district government was giving top priority to the areas which had been neglected in the past. The members of national and provincial assemblies, who had been elected from these areas, had done nothing for their development, he said.

But the present district government had done within 20 months what had not been in past 50 years. Tens of millions of rupees were being spent on the development schemes in union council Husri.

The construction of Husri-Bagh Wah and Husri-Bahawal Zounr roads had been completed and work on the Husri-Seri road was near completion. Storm water drains had been dug up in Husri and diesel and electric pumping machinery had been provided to meet any rain emergency during monsoon season, he said.
