GUJRANWALA, July 10: Two police officers were manhandled and taken hostage by some lawyers for not releasing their colleague here on Tuesday.

Wazirabad Saddar police took one of their colleagues into custody on fraud charges as a cheque issued by him was dishonoured.

Lawyers Malik Abdul Sattar, Malik Javed Iqbal, Chaudhry Irfan Saeed, Zulqarnain, etc., went to police station and asked SHO Ijaz Warraich and investigation officer Sub-Inspector Zubair Sandho to release him. But they refused to do so.

When both police officers visited district courts on Tuesday in connection with a case, the lawyers allegedly manhandled them and kept them hostage at bar hall for about an hour.

On receiving information Qila Dedar Singh town police officer Rehan Masood and two SHOs Maqbool Gujjar and Ramzan Kamboh reached there. They secured release of their colleagues after talks with the lawyers.

DEPORTEES: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested 35 people deported from Turkey.

They were sent to Greece by human smugglers through their agents in Turkey. They were arrested by the Turkish forces while crossing the border and later deported.

An FIA team went to Islamabad and took all the deportees into custody.

It is learnt that 440 people are still in Turkish jails.
