MUZAFFARABAD, March 7: AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan on Wednesday constituted a five-member committee to suggest measures for reorganization of the Kashmir Liberation Cell (KLC) to make it an effective institution with regard to projection of the Kashmir cause.

The committee, headed by the chief secretary, includes finance secretary, services and general administration secretary, secretary to the PM and additional accountant general.

The cell was established in 1987, during the previous stint of premier Hayat, to project the liberation movement and mould the international opinion in support of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

It was also supposed to expose the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and unprovoked shelling on civilian population residing along the Line of Control in Azad Kashmir.

However, Sardar Sikandar said that the institution could not render its duties, particularly during the past five years. “Now this process should stop. I want the KLC to do the job which we had envisaged for it at the time of its establishment,” he said.

The PM asked the Kashmir Liberation Cell officials to hold seminars and publish material besides using all other means to educate people, particularly outside the country, on the basic facts regarding the Kashmir dispute.

He directed the committee to furnish recommendations for improvement of the KLC working and propose service rules for its employees.

The meeting also reviewed the affairs of the Kashmir Academy and put forward proposals to improve its working.

The academy, said the PM, could play a pivotal role in highlighting the culture and civilization of Kashmir and coordinating the services of the writers and intellectuals in this regard.
