Laiq shines in Gold Cup cricket

KARACHI, July 9: A brilliant all-round performance by Laiq-ur-Rehman guided Young Pak Flag CC into the last 16 of the fifth Pak-China Gold Cup cricket tournament. Laiq, a right-handed opener, blasted 117 with 17 boundaries and then claimed four for 52 with his off-spinners as Pak Flag CC defeated United Gymkhana by 120 runs.

Opener Waqar Ahmed struck 101 with 15 fours to help Malir Union CC beat Comrade Sports by 89 runs.

Leg-spinner Zubair Siddiqui grabbed six for 46 but his efforts could not prevent New Star CC losing to Pak Student CC by 60 runs.

Another good all-round show by Wasim Ahmed (50 and 4-45) led Landhi Gymkhana to a 39-run victory over Rising Star CC.
