LAHORE, July 7: Punjab won the overall trophy of the Governor Gold Cup national swimming championship, which ended at Lala Ayub stadium pool, Peshawar on Friday. Punjab competed in all age group events including U-12, 14, 16 and open.

Punjab's teams, which were coached by international coach Hafeez Bhatti, grabbed 30 gold, 28 silver and 11 bronze medals to accumulate 388 points to win the overall trophy, for the first time, against strong competitors like Army, Wapda and Navy.

The NWFP claimed the second position with 208 points. They claimed five gold, six silver and 19 bronze medals. Army remained third with 180 points, earning 11 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals.

Punjab also grabbed the title of best swimmer in all the event. In U-12 its Mohammad Ans and Talha were two best swimmers. In U-14, Syed Mohammad Abdulmoeed and Qasim Ali were declared as outstanding swimmers.

In U-16, Shahbaz Khan and Farrukh Shahzad earned titles while in open category Sikandar and Roheel were two bests.
