LAKKI MARWAT, July 6: In a major embarrassment for the local government, acting tehsil nazim Shaukat Hayat Khan Begukhel was put in the judicial lock-up for an hour on the orders of a local court here on Friday.

According to sources, the court of civil judge-III Farhana Tabassum issued a stay order in a case filed by Aslam Khan against acting tehsil nazim Shaukat Hayat Khan and others.

The petitioners’ lawyer, Aslam Khan, naib nazim of the union council of Lakki-II and others had filed a petition not long ago, requesting the court to stop the respondents — acting tehsil nazim Shaukat Hayat and other senior officials — from implementing a plan envisaging auction of the scrap of the municipal committee’s old building, approval of the revised annual developmental programme and bidding for bus stands, etc. A stay order was issued on the petition.

However, the court’s bailiff reported that the acting tehsil nazim refused to receive the copy of the stay order, after which the court issued non-bailable warrants and directed the police to arrest the nazim and produce him in the court on Friday.

On Friday, the acting tehsil nazim appeared before the court, accompanied by his lawyer Faqir Mehboobul Hamid. The petitioners’ counsel Naimatullah Khan said the acting tehsil nazim had violated the court’s orders.

The court ordered locking up of the acting tehsil nazim after hearing arguments from the two sides.
