LAYYAH, July 5: The government college for girls, Kot Sultan, has been ‘functioning’ without any teacher right from its inception on Sept 1, 2004. Under “Education-for-all” programme, the college was established in the far-flung area of Kot Sultan in Layyah district to provide higher education to the girls.

Having the student strength of 400, the college has a sanctioned post of principal of BS-19, assistant professors and lecturers. The girl students complain that not a single teacher is available to them as a result of which they have to depend on private tuitions.

The college has more than a dozen grade-4 employees who are drawing Rs150,000 salary a month despite the fact that the institution is doing no service to the students.

DO (Colleges) Jamil Ahmad Qureshi told this correspondent that Layyah district had been facing shortage of teachers for various schools and colleges and he had informed the Punjab government about the situation.

However, he said, they had managed to appoint a principal and two lecturers at the college in question last month.
