LAHORE, March 6: The National Database Registration Authority is expected to complete computerization of electoral rolls within the stipulated time and hand them over to the Election Commission on April 2, officials of the Punjab Election Commission told Dawn on Wednesday.
A senior official, who requested anonymity, said the Nadra had apprised the Election Commission that extension of 11 days in its voters’ registration and verification campaign would not affect its plans to complete computerization of the new rolls in time.
The EC had started the registration and verification campaign on Jan 1 which was extended for 11 days till Feb 11 to allow more people to register their votes. According to the officials, about 14,000 forms, containing one or more requests for registration as voters, were received during the last 11 days in the Punjab alone.
“Once the computerized rolls are made available to the EC, we will display them for public information at various places,” they said.
They said: “Revising authorities” comprising judicial officers — civil and additional sessions judges — would also be notified to “hear public objections on the new lists as well as claims for registration as voters”. Besides, the revising authorities would also entertain requests for correction of personal particulars of the registered voters.
“The revising authorities will complete their work in three weeks after which final rolls will be displayed,” the officials said. They said the final rolls would be ready by the end of next month if everything went according to the schedule and the Nadra delivered the rolls in time.
