FAISALABAD, July 3: Shahzina Tariq has reiterated her stance to spend life with Shumail Raj (a transsexual person and bridegroom) despite all hardships both have been facing after a court trial.

On the orders of civil judge Syed Hassan Abbas Rizvi, the Jhang Bazaar police produced her before the judge where she recorded her statement under section 164 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Shahzina said she was not abducted by anyone and that Shumail did nothing wrong with her.

“I called Shumail and wished to be ‘his’ life partner and ‘he’ responded to my proposal positively,” she said.

Couple Shumail, 36, and Shehzina, 25, are cousins and friends since childhood.

She said after release she would not join her parents owing to life threats and would prefer to stay with Shumail anywhere.

Referring to the case registered with the Jhang Bazaar police station on the request of her father Tariq Husain, she said Khalid Bhatti and others nominated in the case had nothing to do with the matter. They had been implicated in the case only for grudge, she said.

Justice Khwaja Mohammad Sharif of the LHC had sentenced the `couple’ to three years in jail on charges of perjury. They were also fined Rs10,000 each.

However, the apex court had granted the couple bail the other day but they were not released so far. Shehzina was again sent to the district jail.

Regarding her release, jail superintendent Mohammad Yousaf said he did not receive the Supreme Court orders so far.
