GUJRANWALA, March 6: A man was injured and three shops reduced to ashes when a gas cylinder exploded in Ghumanwala village on Tuesday night.

The gas cylinders shop of one Ghulam Mustafa caught fire when one of the cylinders exploded at midnight. The fire engulfed an adjacent tailor’s shop and a public call office. Tailor Nazir who was asleep in his shop sustained burn injuries. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital in critical condition.

The estimate of loss was estimated at Rs500,000.

SHOT DEAD: A farmer was shot dead allegedly by his rivals in Noorpur, Qila Dedar Singh, here on Wednesday.

Mahboob Ahmad was cutting fodder in his fields when Iqbal and Shahid shot him dead.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

POs ARRESTED: The CIA police claim having busted a gang of six proclaimed offenders and recovered illicit arms and looted goods from their possession.

A police spokesman said on Wednesday ring leader Rashid had killed a constable, Usman, in an encounter a few months ago.

He claimed the other POs were wanted in many cases of dacoity, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes.

AWARDED RI: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday awarded 14-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs300,000 to a convict for killing his wife. The convict will also pay Rs100,000 to the heirs of the deceased.

According to the prosecution, Aurangzeb had burnt his wife, Shazia, over a domestic issue in the Civil Lines area on Aug 18, 2000.

TWO DACOITS HELD: Satellite Town police claim to have arrested the two dacoits who had looted the house of an industrialist a few days ago and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from them here on Wednesday.

Ashfaq and his accomplice, Asif Mahmood, had looted the house of Shaikh Anwar in Satellite Town a few days ago.

On a tip off that the accused were present at Begum Kot in Lahore, police arrested them and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from them.

LOOTED: Five dacoits in uniform looted the house of a businessman in Qila Dedar Singh here on Wednesday.

Five armed men in uniform entered the house of one Hanif, alleging that he was selling heroin. Later, the intruders collected Rs18,000 in cash and gold ornaments and escaped.
